It feels like it has been an extra tough couple of weeks, and I’m hoping to brighten your day with these photos of Paisley, the Sheltie. I’m familiar with heterochromia iridium in dogs and humans, (one blue eye, one brown eye), but Paisley’s eyes are really unique. Both of her eyes are brown and blue. Her personal photographer (and dog mom) Ashley Lynn took these great photos to celebrate Paisley’s sixth birthday.
From Ashley: “Two years ago a groomer dropped Paisley, rupturing part of her spine and leaving her unable to walk for a time. After 6 months of land, laser and water therapy along with acupuncture and lots of love she now leads a happy life full of running and playing! She has some lingering effects from the accident but her spirit is as bright as ever!
Paisley is an absolute darling dog with a heart so sweet and kind it amazes me.
Here are a few things about her…
1.) She is a Sheltie or a Shetland Sheepdog.
2.) She has half blue and half brown eyes.
3.) She loves walks, playing tug-of-war and fetch.
4.) She has a slew of stuffed toys that she knows by name. Her favorite is lamb chop, which I buy in bulk to switch out when they get too ratty.
5.) She know lots of tricks- sit, down, shake, give me five, speak, stop speaking, stay, come, go to bed, bang you’re dead, and she can steady a treat on her nose until I tell her to ‘get it’.
6.) Hates squirrels and bikes.”
Ashley even sent over the recipe for Paisley’s birthday cake! For Paisley’s cake she made two layers, so if you want the cake to look like Paisley’s be sure to double the recipe.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup natural applesauce
- 1 cup flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 cup organic peanut butter (without sugar or xylitol)
- 1/2 cup diced carrots
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 14 oz. Greek yogurt
- 1 tsp vanilla
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Mix all cake ingredients in a bowl. Mix until it is a cake batter consistency. Add more applesauce if it is too dry. Pour into grease 6 inch X 2 inch round cake pan. Bake for 20-30 min.
- Mix “icing” ingredients together. Once the cake(s) have cooled spread icing on top.

So cute! Her eyes are beautiful. One of my pups has one blue eye and one brown. I just adore dogs, all animals really, with unique eyes. Happy (belated) 6th birthday to Paisley!
Oh my goodness. Paisley’s been through a lot. Bless her that she was able to recover from that accident. I’ve never seen eyes like hers either. What a beautiful shoot. Looks like she had a wonderful 6th birthday. Love the flower crown.
What beautiful photos of a very beautiful dog. It must have been so heartbreaking when she had the accident as Shelties love running around. Thank goodness she recovered enough to enjoy life again and celebrate her 6th birthday. That cake looks delicious- Kilo the Pug would love it.
I’m glad she’s mostly recovered from the accident! The cake looks delicious. Mr. N would appreciate the frosting.
