I absolutely love sharing personal projects from photographers and other artists, so I was thrilled when Angel Sallade sent me these photos of her newest endeavor: The Sighthound Project. Generally speaking, Sighthounds are some of the most visually graceful dogs with their long lines and soulful eyes. Combining their natural beauty with Angel’s dramatic lighting is truly a work of art.
From Angel: “The Sighthound Project is a personal project that originated to show the world the beauty and personality of this family of breeds. As I learned more about each of the breeds, the project is a mission. The mission is to share with the world not only their beauty but also for some breeds the story of their plight, like the Galgos, Podencos, Greyhound, and Lurchers.
This project has truly been a journey, and I still have so much more to accomplish, but I am learning so much. My goal is to create a calendar of Sighthounds, host a gallery exhibit (on-location and on-line), and the final goal is to compile the images into a book.
My husband has also partnered with me to create digital drawings of each breed I capture to raise money also. Products with these drawings will be available by early this summer. With every sale, a percent of the proceeds will go into a fund for rescue groups helping to rescue Sighthounds in need.
I’m hoping for sessions to be completed by late 2016 with calendars ready by the holidays. The gallery and book will be completed in 2017. My timeline is heavily weighted in my ability to locate some of the rare breeds.”
Angel is still looking for Italian Greyhounds, Borzoi, Deerhounds, Silken Windhound, Smooth coat Saluki, and Pharaoh hounds. You must be local or willing to travel to Bloomington, Illinois.
