Although the Daily Dog Tag is mostly all about dogs, the truth is I love all pets. I’m over the moon about this lovely bird-friendly elopement with a lorikeet. I’ve always thought that elopements are the most romantic way to start a marriage. And the best venue is the great outdoors. Claudina and Igor chose the perfect photographer, Malachi, from Shell Creek Photography, to capture the day. Of course, elopements are even sweeter when a pet is present. Although the couple originally planned on bringing their caique (a type of small parrot), they were unable to.
Happily, Malachi brought along the ideal companion to witness the ceremony, his lorikeet, Jarli.
From Malachi: “Claudina and Igor wanted to do a fun hike for their wedding day where they could see impressive mountains. They came up from New Mexico into western Colorado at just the right time for some peak fall colors! It was a little rainy, but it held off just long enough for their ceremony. On our hike back down, though, we got absolutely drenched! They embraced it, though, and had fun with it. Claudina and Igor were going to bring Tumbleweed, their caique, but weren’t able to. So I surprised them and brought along my rainbow lorikeet Jarli!
Jarli is a sweetheart & a little bit crazy, and he loves everyone that he meets. Claudina included some of Tumbleweed’s feathers in her bouquet!”

If you love parrots, check out our post on Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. If you’re thinking about getting a bird, consider adopting one! In addition to being a dog lover, I’ve also been lucky enough to have several pet birds. The birds in my life included budgies, cockatiels, lovebirds, and an Alexandrine parakeet. Birds make great companions and can get can along well with dogs.
