I’ve always heard March comes in like a lion, but March is coming in like a pair of Portuguese Water Dogs this year. You’ll understand once you see this awesome photo from Beth Photography. Molly and Atlas must have so much fun during this snowy photoshoot.
From Maegan: “After lots of research, we decided a Portuguese Water dog would be a great fit for our family. We were so fortunate to meet an amazing, responsible breeder who spent lots of time getting to know us, to match us with the best puppy for our family.
Our breeder became our biggest resource and a close friend. Last year when Molly’s sister had a beautiful litter of 14 puppies, we decided to keep the ‘pick of the litter’ and try our hand at conformation!
Atlas instantly fit into our family. At only a year old, he already has his Canadian Championship, Canadian Good Neighbour Certificate, and a Rally Obedience title.
Molly and Atlas play together constantly. When we’re gone to work, Molly lies right beside Atlas’ crate all day.”
Although I’m a big proponent of dog adoption, if you are considering buying a puppy, please research breeders carefully as this family did.
An ethical breeder will, among other things:
- welcome you to visit the mom and puppies
- ask you lots of questions and be happy to answer your questions.
- will insist that you sign a contract stating that if you can’t keep the puppy, you will return it to the breeder
- never sell puppies to a pet store
- test the parents for genetic diseases

Looks like they have a very happy family and life!
Oh my goodness – look at those beautiful dogs! Thank you, also, for adding information about how to find a reputable breeder. If you’re going to buy, (which I did for my own personal reasons) it’s SO INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT to only support good breeders. Definitely worth the mention.
Oh my goodness! These dogs are gorgeous! Having dogs is the best!
Oh my goodness, the snow is such a perfect place for a pup photoshoot! Look at all those snowflakes on their adorable faces. Too cute!
I had never seen Portuguese Water Dogs before . They do look like a fun breed and ready to play. They are a little big for me but a lot of fun if you have the room.
Oh my goodness they are just too cute, just look at them with their snow dusted faces! I just love the photography <3 I would love some similar of Sal.
Your photos of these adorable animals make me want one! I love their color. I know that my daughter would like them, too.
These dogs are gorgeous. They look like they have to such fun together. These photos are so amazing!
How precious! Yes, finding an ethical breeder is a must. If we ever opted for one, I’d do my research for sure. For now though, we always go to the shelter!
Rescue animals make great companions!
What beautiful dogs! They certainly seem to love the snow and having the time of their lives!
What a perfect place for a photo shoot. That snow is perfect for the dogs. The brown pops with the white, it’s just great pictures.
What wonderful and playful dogs! Looks like a great breed to have.
What adorable dogs! My friend has one of these types of dogs and they are super sweet.
I’ve never heard of this breed before. They are GORGEOUS dogs!
Oh my, such beautiful dogs!!
These are good and very important tips to keep in mind when looking for a breeder. I can appreciate a breeder that shows a lot of interest in the families the future pups would be living with.
Oh! They are so cute! Yeah, I love the way treated dogs as a family and I’ve learned more about from your blog. For me, dogs decrease stress levels.
These dogs are gorgeous!! I wish I had a backyard so I could have a bigger dog!
Oh wow, they are so cute!!! My son really wants a dog but we don’t have space for one. I think it’s great the breeders get buyers to sign a contract to return puppies to them if they can no longer care for them. Not all breeders do that.
Yes, that’s a big clue to help figure out if you’re dealing with a good breeder or someone who is just in it for the money.
I am so inlove with the photos! I have three dogs and one of it is a black bear type chow. I am actually having a hard time taking a picture of her. Now, I am much more motivated upon seeing how these furr pets look in the camera.
All the photos are so awesome! I love how cute they are. Perfect shots!
Oh my goodness. Look at those two. Their little snowy faces are so adorable. These photos made my day.
OMG! They are the cutest dogs that I’ve ever seen. And the photos are AMAZING!
I love snow-covered dog faces. During the winter, Cookie is incapable of getting out of the house without coming back with a snow mask. She says the snow attacks her.
Those dogs are amazing even to a cat person like mer.
Wow they look good in the snow. and the action shots….!!!!
What a wonderful family, and what a glorious life! I just adore Portuguese Water Dogs – they are so sweet, playful and intelligent. Great photos!
Beautiful dogs. I love the snow nose!
This pair sure look happy – they love the snow. I noticed that their rear ends are shaved. Is that the common style for these dogs?
I know I have said this before, but there is something so special about snow pics! These are beautiful. I just love the close-up of Atlas with all the snow on his face (and what a great name, by the way)!
Even though I don’t enjoy being in the snow anymore, I love photos of dogs in the snow!
GORGEOUS dogs, and equally stunning photos. I’m so glad that Maegan points out the importance of finding a reputable breeder. My husband and I are fans of PWD’s and have searched for them on rescue sites over the years. I am impressed by the work done by breeders, and rescue organizations who advocate for this breed as there never seem to be many listed as needing to be rehomed.
It seems Molly and Atlas enjoy the snow as much as the water!
